There are different types of events that can overwhelm our coping skills and result in trauma. These can be single events like death of a loved one, witnessing an accident, sexual assault. Or trauma can occur from repeated events over time like verbal or emotional abuse as a child or adult, being bullied, or ongoing domestic violence. Unresolved trauma can result in PTSD symptoms , depression, anxiety and unhealthy coping skills such as substance use or other types of risky behavior.
I utilize EMDR as a primary therapy to help resolve trauma memories in a rapid and effective way. I also encourage mindful practices and body work like yoga to help metabolize the trauma.
